The Three Dimensions of the Soul and their Resonance in the Tripartite Society
Norse mythology, replete with its deities and legends, provides insights into the nature of the human soul. Concurrently, the Western occult tradition delineates the soul in three components :
— The higher spirit or eternal soul: the eagle or the hawk Veðrfǫlnir.
— The intermediate level of the soul, associated with intellect, emotions, and individual personality, representing an individual’s consciousness and character during their lifetime: Ratatoskr.
— And the animal soul or vital spirit, tethered to physical life and instincts: Níðhǫggr.
When paired with the deities Wotan, Thor, and Freyr, these three levels offer a profound understanding of each individual’s roles and responsibilities within society and how to act on each plane, emulating the exemplary roles of our Gods.
Wotan: The Spiritual Power ⭐️🪄🌲
The nameless eagle, the loftiest soul tier, pertains to intuition and spiritual discernment. Wotan, the deity of wisdom and knowledge, embodies this dimension.
In the tripartite society, Wotan epitomizes the priestly class, those who guide and illuminate the populace through wisdom, law, and governance. He symbolizes the unending pursuit of knowledge and truth, even sacrificing an eye for perpetual wisdom. This quest for enlightenment is pivotal for upholding order and justice in society.
Thor: The Protective Strength 🔨⚡️🎵
The squirrel Ratatosk, the individual consciousness, is linked to intellect and emotions. Thor, wielding his mighty hammer Mjölnir, personifies strength, bravery, and guardianship.
Within the societal fabric, Thor represents the warriors, those who shield society from external threats. His vigor and heroism are indispensable for maintaining peace and security. As the bridge between the divine and the earthly, Thor ensures the defense and preservation of the community’s values and principles against the malevolent forces embodied by the Jotunns.
Freyr: The Earthly Abundance 💰🐗💕
The serpent Nidhogg, the animalistic soul, the most fundamental soul tier, correlates with instincts and physical yearnings. Freyr, the deity of fertility and prosperity, symbolizes this elevated and sublimed dimension.
In society, Freyr epitomizes the producer class, those who labor with matter and soil, raise livestock, and assure the community’s material affluence. He also portrays the local community leader, who organizes communal feasts to nurture the ties that keep Fenrir bound. His bond with earth and nature ensures bounty, health, and tranquility for all.
By amalgamating these analogies, we acquire a holistic understanding of how every individual, by adhering to their true nature, contributes to the harmony and equilibrium of the community.
