In reciprocation for this divine blessing, they shoulder a vast responsibility, akin to that of a distinguished guest at a royal banquet, where every gesture and utterance are scrutinized with utmost scrutiny.

Wotan, bearing the esteemed title of Herjafodr, the Father of Guests, expects from his disciples impeccable conduct. Envision oneself at a globally renowned gala, where every deed is surveyed by the accusatory alfir, akin to intrusive paparazzi. The wisdom of the saying, « One does not behave in the Palace as in a tavern, » captures the essence of the Siðvenja, with all else being nuances and interpretations.

Our forebears, fortified by this belief, would cry out before charging into battle: « Wotan eiga ykkur öll, » declaring their undivided allegiance to Wotan. According to the skaldic poets, Wotan favors the noble, thus asserting that anyone who honors Samhain is inherently of noble stature.

However, such bestowed nobility comes with its obligations !

To examine one’s conduct is not to blindly adhere to a stringent moral code, but rather to embrace and manifest this nobility through honorable and dignified actions. Frey of Álfheim, upon assuming the Old Master’s seat, was not criticized for a moral transgression, but for overlooking the sacred and eternal significance of his actions, for renouncing his majesty, and for debasing himself, betraying his noble duties.

Our learned scholars, bearers of ancient wisdom, remind us that every individual possesses a unique essence. Each action, no matter how trifling, resonates profoundly across the nine realms, and the harmony of myriad universes hinges on the integrity of every fiber of our being.
